World War II veterans were honored on April 12, 2014 at Austin Bergstrom International Airport in a welcome-home celebration after a special visit to the World War II Memorial in Washington, D.C. Made possible by a $40,000 donation from St. David’s HealthCare to Honor Flight Austin, 60 veterans journeyed to see the Memorial—a first, for many.

“It was a privilege to support Honor Flight as it fulfilled the dreams of many Central Texas veterans to visit the Memorial, immortalizing their service and dedication to our country,” Denise Bradley, Ph.D., director of corporate communications and public affairs, St. David’s HealthCare, said. “St. David’s looks for opportunities to assist the community in new and diverse ways, and we are honored to serve as a partner in this meaningful cause.”

St. David’s HealthCare also donated 30 wheelchairs to Honor Flight, and a number of staff members, who are veterans of the U.S. Armed Forces, assisted as guardians on the flight for the World War II veterans.

Honor Flight Austin was established in 2012, and since its inception has supported 13 missions and transported more than 400 World War II veterans to Washington, D.C.
